Garage door repair and installation in Stoney Creek
Stoney Creek sits between us and Hamilton on the QEW, which makes it the area outside Grimsby where same-day is most often a real answer. It also has the widest spread of door ages of anywhere on the corridor: 1950s singles near the old village, 1990s doubles below the brow, and subdivisions on the upper Mountain that are barely a decade old.

Winona and Fruitland: fruit land turned subdivision
A large part of the lakeshore strip between Stoney Creek and Grimsby was orchard within living memory and is now houses. Those subdivisions went up in waves, which means whole streets have doors of exactly the same age, from the same builder, with the same builder-grade springs. They reach their first failure within a year or two of each other.
If a neighbour has just had springs replaced, that is a useful signal rather than a coincidence, because springs are rated in cycles and every door on that street started counting at the same time. Garaga puts the service life of springs generally supplied on the market at 10,000 cycles, which it describes as more than 13 years at two openings a day; at the four to six openings a day a family garage actually sees, that is six years or fewer.

Along Highland Road and the upper edge of the escarpment, garages face open exposure with little shelter. Wind load on a garage door is a real engineering quantity, and DASMA publishes a wind load guide for garage doors and commercial doors based on the National Building Code of Canada. Practically, exposure shows up as a door that flexes visibly in a gust, and it is an argument for asking about reinforcement rather than accepting the base model on a wide opening.

Near King Street the housing is older and the garages are frequently detached, narrow and framed by hand. These get measured on site, and the answer is sometimes that the opening itself needs attention before a door goes in it. We will say so rather than forcing a standard door into a non-standard hole.
Why the QEW decides your window
The shop is in Grimsby, one interchange away. On a normal weekday morning that is a short run, which is why Stoney Creek and Winona regularly get same-day service on stock repairs: springs, cables, rollers, hinges and most opener faults. A new door, or a matching replacement section in a specific colour, is an order rather than a same-day fix anywhere.
Permits
Hamilton's rules apply. Replacing a garage door in its existing opening is not on Hamilton's permit list; "creating new door or window openings or increasing the size of openings" is. Hamilton's Building Division is 905-546-2720.
