## The four measurements that decide a Dundas job

DASMA's homeowner inspection procedure asks specifically for a visual inspection of the jambs and header for proper attachment to the structure, including loose or improperly attached connections, and its guidance adds that where a building occupant is unsure of the condition of the framing the door is attached to, a building contractor or design professional should be contacted.

That is the honest reason a Dundas quote sometimes includes jamb work: putting new track into rotten wood produces a door that goes out of alignment within a year.

## Unheated, unfinished, and damp

A detached valley garage with no heat, an earth or aged concrete floor and gaps at the eaves is a humid environment, and humidity is what corrodes springs and cables. ## Conservation land

Dundas is surrounded by conservation and escarpment lands, and properties with a natural feature on or near them can need approval from the conservation authority, or a Niagara Escarpment Commission development permit, before a building permit is issued. None of that touches a straight door replacement. It matters if you are building or enlarging a garage.
